Enable AddressTools Override for New Records¶
Overview¶
The AddressTools Override is a Lightning component that replaces the standard New Record popup your users see when they create a record in Salesforce. It mimics the standard Lightning experience and reads your existing page layouts and field assignments automatically, so there is no extra layout maintenance to keep on top of.
It gives your users these features at the point of entry:
- Type-ahead PowerSearch address verification
- ZIP Code Lookup
- Country and State suggestion picklists
- QuickComplete Country default country selection
Enable the override if you want that interactive functionality while a record is being created. It is optional: if your users only need AddressTools once a record exists, the record page component covers that instead. See Add the AddressTools Component to a Lightning Record Page.
The override provides interactive functionality only. Trigger functionality, such as validation and standardisation, runs whenever a record is saved on an object with an active trigger, whether or not the override is in place. See Activate Triggers.
Note
The override applies to the New button only, and is set per object.
Before You Start¶
The address block for the object must already exist, as the override displays the fields you have mapped on it. If you have not created one yet, see Binding an Address Block.
The settings for the interactive features you want the override to provide, such as PowerSearch, ZIP Code Lookup and QuickComplete Country, should also be turned on.
Step 1: Edit the New Button¶
- Navigate to Setup > Object Manager.
- Select the object, then select Buttons, Links, and Actions.
- Find New in the list, click the arrow at the end of its row, and select Edit.
Step 2: Set the Override¶
- Set Lightning Experience Override to Lightning Component.
- From the picklist, select
pw_ccpro__AddressToolsOverride. - Click Save.
Repeat for every object where you want the create-record screen overridden.
Limitations¶
Overriding a standard button changes behaviour your users may rely on elsewhere, so test the override in a sandbox before enabling it in production. Be aware of the following:
- Creating a record from a related list does not consistently populate lookup fields.
- Creating a record from a lookup field bypasses the override, so users get the standard screen.
- With duplicate rules enabled, users see different duplicate detection prompts from the standard ones.
- Dependent picklists on page layouts are not supported.
Salesforce also documents its own restrictions on overriding buttons. See Considerations for Overriding Standard Buttons and Tab Home Pages.
If the Standard Screen Still Appears¶
Salesforce caches page definitions, so the change may not show immediately. Clear your browser cache, log out and back in, then open the new record screen again.
