Entering an Address

Overview

This page covers adding an address to a new record. How you enter it depends on whether your organisation uses address verification.

To change or confirm an address on a record that already exists, see Updating an Address.

Which Path to Follow

Click New for the object, and look at the address fields:

With Address Verification

Search for the address and select it. AddressTools fills in the address fields with a verified address.

  1. Complete the record fields required by your organisation.
  2. Start typing the address in Search Address. Include the building number or name and the ZIP or postal code where you know them.
  3. If a country filter is shown, select the country to narrow the results.
  4. Select the address from the results. Some results group several addresses together, such as a street or a building with many units. Select one of these to see the addresses inside it, and continue until the full address appears.
  5. Review the address fields, which are now filled in.
  6. Click Save, or click Save & New to save the record and begin another one.

When you select an address, the address status becomes Verified.

Note

Selecting an address uses one of your organisation's verification lookups. Searching without selecting an address does not.

If the Address Is Not Found

When No addresses found appears:

  • Check the spelling of the address.
  • Include the building number or name and the ZIP or postal code.
  • Select the correct country from the country filter, if it is shown.
  • Remove unnecessary text and search again with the main address details.

If the address still cannot be found, type it into the address fields by following Without Address Verification. The address status stays Not checked, as the address has not been confirmed to exist.

Without Address Verification

Type the address into the address fields. AddressTools helps you enter it accurately, but does not confirm that it exists.

  1. Complete the record fields required by your organisation.
  2. Enter the address in the address fields. As you type, AddressTools can help:
    • Suggestions appear as you type the country and state. Select one to use the value stored in your org.
    • For a US address, entering the ZIP code fills in the city and state, and shows whether the city, state and ZIP code are a valid combination. Where a ZIP code covers more than one city, choose the city from the list. Click Lookup Zip to run this again.
    • Your default country appears as a link beneath the country field. Click it to fill in the country.
  3. Click Save, or click Save & New to save the record and begin another one.

Which of these features you see depends on the features your organisation uses. If your organisation verifies addresses automatically, the address can be verified shortly after you save.

On the Standard Salesforce Screen

If none of the AddressTools features appear, enter the address as you would any other Salesforce field. AddressTools can still check the address when you save the record. See What Happens When You Save.
