Understanding Address Status

Overview

The address status shows whether an address has been verified, and what the result was. Each address on a record has its own status.

An address can be verified when you select it from the search, and your organisation can also verify addresses automatically. An address status can therefore change without anyone opening the record.

What Each Status Means

Status What it Means What to Do
Not checked The address has not been verified since it was entered or changed. Verify the address, or wait for your organisation's automatic verification to run.
Verified The address was matched to postal data. No action is needed.
Parsed but not found The address could be broken into its parts but not matched to a known address. Review the address, and use Verify to select the exact address if it can be found.
Ambiguous The address matched more than one possible address. Use Verify to select the correct address.
Not matched The address could not be matched to postal data. Check the address for missing or incorrect details, then use Verify or correct it by hand.

For how to verify an address on a record, see Updating an Address.

Automatic Verification

Your organisation can verify addresses automatically in two ways:

  • When a record is saved. The record saves straight away and the address is verified shortly afterwards, so the status can read Not checked at first. Refresh the record after a short interval to see the result.
  • In a batch, on demand or on a schedule. Addresses whose status is Not checked can be verified without the record being opened or edited.

What Changes on the Record

  • Verified: the address fields are replaced with the verified address.
  • Parsed but not found: the address fields can be rewritten in the format the verification service recognised, but the address has not been confirmed to exist.
  • Ambiguous and Not matched: the address is left as it was, and only the status changes.

Changing an address after it has been verified sets its status back to Not checked.

If the Status Does Not Change

If an address stays Not checked longer than expected:

  1. Refresh the record page.
  2. Check that the address has a country and enough detail to identify the premises.
  3. Contact your Salesforce administrator if the status still does not change.
