Updating an Address¶
Overview¶
This page covers the address on a record that already exists. How you update it depends on whether your organisation uses address verification.
To add an address to a new record, see Entering an Address.
Which Path to Follow¶
Open the record and locate the address you want to update using the address editor component. The component heading may identify the address, such as Billing Address or Shipping Address.
- If there is a Verify button, address verification is available. Follow With Address Verification.
- If there is an Edit button but no Verify button, follow Without Address Verification.
- If the address is shown as standard Salesforce fields, see On the Standard Salesforce Screen.
With Address Verification¶
Verify the Stored Address¶
Use this to confirm the address already on the record.
- Click Verify. Address Search opens with the stored address already in the search box.
- Review the search text, and add any missing detail such as the building number or ZIP or postal code.
- If a country filter is shown, select the country to narrow the results.
- Select the address from the results. Some results group several addresses together, such as a street or a building with many units. Select one of these to see the addresses inside it, and continue until the full address appears.
AddressTools saves the selected address straight away, shows the Address verified and saved message, and sets the address status to Verified. Click Cancel to close Address Search without changing anything.
Tip
If the address you expect does not appear, try searching with less of it. The stored address is used in full, and a small difference in any part of it, such as an outdated street name or an extra line, can stop it matching. A shorter search, such as the building number and ZIP or postal code, often finds the address.
Change to a Different Address¶
Use this when the record needs a new address, for example after a customer moves.
- Click Edit.
- Start typing the new address in Search Address, and select it from the results in the same way.
- Review the address fields, which are now filled in.
- Click Save.
When you select an address, the address status becomes Verified. AddressTools shows the Address saved successfully message once the record is saved. Click Cancel instead if you do not want to keep the changes.
Note
Selecting an address uses one of your organisation's verification lookups. Searching without selecting an address does not.
If the address cannot be found, try the tips in If the Address Is Not Found. If it still cannot be found, type it in by following Without Address Verification.
Without Address Verification¶
- Click Edit.
- Update the address fields. The help described in Without Address Verification on the Entering an Address page is available here too.
- Click Save.
AddressTools shows the Address saved successfully message once the record is saved. Click Cancel instead if you do not want to keep the changes.
Changing an address that was already verified sets its status back to Not checked, as the new address has not been confirmed. If your organisation verifies addresses automatically, the address can be verified shortly after you save. See Understanding Address Status.
On the Standard Salesforce Screen¶
If the record page shows the address as standard Salesforce fields, edit it as you would any other field. AddressTools still checks the address when you save the record. See What Happens When You Save.
